Sircam tops virus list
Dayton Business Journal
Central Command Inc., an anti-virus software and computer security services company in Medina, has released its monthly roundup of the "Dirty Dozen," the 12 most prevalent computer viruses tracked during July.
July was dominated by I-Worm.Sircam.A, a new prolific Internet worm that caught millions of e-mail users worldwide by surprise.
Steven Sundermeier, product manager for Central Command, said the worm searches and sends stolen copies of documents contained in the infected user's "My Documents" folder to the e-mail addresses found in the Windows address book and the temporary Internet folder.
Also new to the list is the CodeRed worm, which exploits a known vulnerability in Microsoft's Internet information server. Sundermeier said CodeRed defaced Web sites worldwide with the phrase "Hacked by Chinese" and tried to overload the government Web site http://www.whitehouse.gov with requests.
