NCR names new COO

NCR Corp. this morning named a co-president and chief operating officer for its retail and financial groups.
Howard Lance assumes the position after 17 years with St. Louis-based Emerson Electric Co., where he most recently served as executive vice president with responsibility for much of Emerson's electronics and telecommunications segment.
Lance, whose appointment is effective immediately, will be responsible for four of NCR's five businesses -- retail store automation, financial self service, worldwide customer services and business equipment. Mark Hurd, the company's other chief operating officer, will head Teradata, NCR's data warehousing unit.
Hurd and Lance both will share the title of president as well.
"Howard has proven ability growing technology-related businesses both organically and through acquisition," said Lars Nyberg, NCR chairman and chief executive officer. "His extensive sales and marketing experience, operational capabilities and technology expertise are an excellent fit for NCR."
Shares in NCR, http://www.ncr.com, were trading down $6.22 per share this morning on the New York Stock Exchange at $38.55.
