Military attention to detail drives Metro CEO
Business Courier of Cincinnati - by Lucy May Senior Staff Reporter
When Marilyn Shazor took over as CEO and general manager of Metro on March 31, she became the first woman and the first minority to hold the job, a distinction she considers an honor. "This would not have been possible in many cities across the country 20 years ago - and in some instances 10 or five years ago," she said. "My intent is to continue to give this community my best, not just as a female and an African-American, but as Metro's CEO." Shazor is a graduate of the U.S. Military Academy at West Point with a bachelor's degree in aerospace engineering. She served in the U.S. Army and later managed engineering projects for James River Corp. in Alabama and Mead Corp. in Dayton. She earned an MBA from the Ross School of Business at the University of Michigan and is a certified senior professional in human resources. Before her promotion, she was chief operating officer at Metro, a job she had held since April 2006. She lives in West Chester with her two children.
