Evenflo moving HQ to Miamisburg

Evenflo Company Inc. is relocating its worldwide corporate headquarters from Vandalia to Miamisburg, south of Dayton, with intentions to grow its employee base, company and city officials said Tuesday.
The maker of baby care products said it will lease and move to the 50,000-square-foot former Huffy Corp. bicycle building at 225 Byers Road sometime in the second quarter of 2008 following renovations of the facility. About 150 employees will move there.
"Vandalia has been a good home for us for the past decade," said Evenflo Chief Executive Officer Rob Matteucci. "In making this relocation decision, we considered all of our options, including attractive offers from several other areas."
Evenflo project manager Amee Sherman said company staff is now divided into two buildings in Northwood Business Park in Vandalia and wanted to be in one structure because employees now have to walk outside to go from one building to another to perform their duties. She said the company has not yet pinned down an exact date when it will move.
Miamisburg provided a $190,000 loan to be forgiven so long as the company maintains its $12 million payroll during the next five years. Evenflo said it will add 20 new employees in 2008 and is planning an addition to the building, which was constructed in the mid-1960, said Keith Johnson, the city's economic development director.
Details of the addition are still being worked out, he said.
Vandalia spokesman Rich Hopkins said his city, located off Interstate 75 north of Dayton, tried to find a building to retain Evenflo but couldn't find one to suit the company's needs.
"They are good people and we wish them the best," Hopkins said. "From our perspective, there are now two buildings that are going to attract a lot of attention and we anticipate those two buildings will not be empty for long."
Huffy Corp., maker of bicycles, play centers and golf equipment, in November moved its headquarters from Miamisburg to the former IKON building in Centerville.
Evenflo, which also employs more than 300 people at its manufacturing facility in Piqua, Ohio, is an 85-year-old company focused on the development of baby and toddler products to include car seats, strollers, high chairs, play yards and baby bottles.
The company recently expanded its product line by acquiring Ameda Breastfeeding Products, a hospital-grade breast pumps and accessories marketer.
