NYPA re-ups deals with 9 companies

Nine manufacturers in three Western New York counties have been granted extensions for low-cost power, preserving some 1,800 jobs.
The New York Power Authority approved the contracts for electricity generated which is from the Niagara Power Project in Lewiston.
The companies are located in Erie, Niagara and Chautauqua counties. The five-year extensions, accounting for a total of 11,100 kilowatts, are supported by expansion power, one of the two large blocks of industrial power reserved for area businesses under New York state law.
The companies, their allocations and job commitments, are as follows:
- 3M Co., Tonawanda, 500 kw, 330 jobs.
- C&S Wholesale Grocers, Cheektowaga, 300 kw, 50 jobs.
- Delphi Automotive Systems, Amherst, 500 kw, 124 jobs.
- International Imaging Materials (IIMAK), Amherst, 1,250 kw, 393 jobs.
- Tulip Corp., Niagara Falls, 300 kw, 110 jobs.
- Dunkirk Specialty Steel, Dunkirk, 5,800 kw, 180 jobs. NYPA noted the allocation under the extended contract reflects a reduction of 1,000 kw since the company had not utilized the full amount under its previous contract.
- Fairbank Farms, Ashville, 700 kw, 110 jobs.
- Special Metals Corp., Dunkirk, 1,000 kw, 81 jobs.
- The Red Wing Co., Fredonia, 750 kw, 440 jobs.
