Delphi signs transporting service contract
Business First of Buffalo
A unit of Delphi Automotive Systems Corp., the parent of Delphi Harrison Thermal Systems, has landed the contract to supply electronic components for the new Segway Human Transporter.
Delphi also is considering using the self-balancing electric-powered transportation machines in its own facilities, said J.T. Battenberg III, chairman, CEO and president of Delphi.
"With its advanced balancing capabilities and maneuverability, the Segway HT has potential widespread applications in a variety of industries," he said.
Police departments in Boston and Manchester, N.H., have agreed to test the devices next year.
Battenberg said the Segway HT fits into Delphi's "new market" strategy to expand into high-tech, high-growth markets beyond its current automotive segment, and diversify its customer base.
Delphi helped the Segway HT's Manchester-based company develop key electronic system elements used to control the human transporter.
